“Swendini” (Swen Nater)


Swen Nater is a seven-foot tall ABA and NBA player who played for eleven seasons, averaging over twelve points and over twelve rebounds per game. He is a member of the NBA exclusive “30-30 Club” where in one game he scored 30 points and gathered 33 rebounds. There are only six members. He was ABA Rookie of the Year, ABA All-Star twice, and is the only player to lead both the ABA and NBA in rebounds. Swen Nater was nominated to the Naismith Hall of Fame where his selection is pending.

Some of Swen’s teammates were George Gervin (Iceman), Julius Erving (Dr. J), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Irving Johnson (Magic).

Swen Nater was a two-time undefeated NCAA basketball champion when he attended UCLA. His coach was the preeminent John Wooden and his team included Bill Walton and Jamaal Wilkes.

After retirement, Swen was head coach of the San Diego Christian College Hawks basketball team where he led the team to win a national championship. To date, he has authored six published books, one of which he co-authored with Dr. Ronald Gallimore,You Haven’t Taught Until They Have Learned, a study of John Wooden’s teaching methods.

When a basketball player, Swen Nater performed for millions of spectators and he is still performing, not for basketball fans but for magic fans. He has appeared at Hollywood’s Magic Castle, and around the world. Swen, AKA Swendini, is known as “The Tallest Magician in the World,” and also “The Storytelling Magician.”
